DBTG webinar to focus on lessons learnt

DBTG webinar to focus on lessons learnt

(Posted on 27/05/20)

The International Dry Bulk Terminals Group, a not-for-profit society open to all owners/operators of dry bulk terminals world-wide, will hold a webinar on 28th May to discuss the effects of COVID-19 to the industry.

The group released a statement through Executive Director, Paul Goris:

“Global dry bulk terminals are facing COVID-19. Or should we write: dry bulk terminals need to continuously manage around the virus that has hit most of us since March now? Starting as a huge threat by the unknown, as a fear for a completely new disease, which has now become part of our daily life with many restrictions. We learned to manage around it, but still feel uncomfortable by the day. What does it mean to us in person? What does it mean to our employees in their daily life? And to our industry: to what extent did it effect our figures, our numbers as it has entirely changed the content of our dashboards? Numbers of questions and answers whereby each of us will have his or her own private and business experience.

During our WEBINAR ON 28TH OF MAY 2020 FROM 11.00-13.00 GMT we will discuss the effects by COVID-19 to our industry. How is it effecting our operations - What does it mean in the area of Human Resources/our employees - What are the lessons learnt by ship/shore interfaces – What experiences can be used for the future – What are the lessons learnt from the time that we needed to adapt our procedures – Will we continue with certain ‘new habits’.

During the Webinar we will be focussing on what we should do now to be prepared for the future. COVID-19 did touch all of us and we are convinced that there is a lot to be learnt from mining companies and peer dry bulk terminals on the entire globe.

I will be monitoring this discussion and go into detail with shippers and dry bulk terminal operators from all over the world:

Hennie du Plooy, CEO Port Waratah Coal Services (Australia)

Frikkie Burger, Manager Growth & Optimization Logistics at Kumba Iron Ore (South Africa)

Han Ozturk, Operational and Technical Director of Nectar Group (UK & global operations)

Andrés Gomez Bueno, CEO Grupo GOF (Spain)

Scott Becnel, Director Cooper Consolidated (USA)

Companies can register for complementary participation to this webinar via the website www.drybulkterminals.org

Established in 1998 the DBTG provides an effective forum and voice for a global, but highly fragmented, industry that is of critical importance to the seaborne trade and transportation of dry bulk commodities. Since foundation DBTG has developed into a community where members freely exchange ideas and concerns, experience and expertise on issues such as operational safety and efficiency, technical analysis and innovation, environmental matters, operator training, as well as maritime security. In all these matters DBTG’s work programme includes initiatives of regional and global relevance.
