Superior Industries, Inc., a US-based manufacturer and global supplier of bulk material processing and handling systems, is introducing expanded horsepower options across its Patriot® Cone Crusher lineup, giving aggregate producers greater flexibility to optimize performance in demanding and unpredictable crushing applications.
According to the manufacturer, the move to more horsepower is less about tonnage increases and more about solving operational challenges producers face every day in the field. The updated options include increasing the Patriot P300 from 300- to 350-horsepower, the P400 from 400- to 450-horsepower, and the P500 from 500- to 600-horsepower.
“There’s a misconception that more horsepower equals more tonnage, and that’s not
necessarily true,” says Superior’s crushing product manager, Jarrod Adcock. “What additional horsepower really does is expand the machine’s application flexibility.”
Adcock stresses that ideally, cone crushers should be choke-fed (operating with a fulln crushing chamber) for maximum crushing efficiency. But in real world operations, maintaining consistent choke feed conditions is not always possible, he notes. Variations in upstream feed, surge fluctuations, screening limitations, segregation, portable plant constraints, haul cycle inconsistencies and changing material conditions can all prevent a cone crusher from operating with a consistently full chamber.
“When producers reach amp limits before fully optimising the crushing chamber, additional horsepower can make a big difference,” says Adcock. “It creates more operating headroom, allowing producers to maintain crushing force and reduction performance in inconsistent or partially loaded feed conditions while sustaining throughput and hitting target gradations.”
Superior Industries is a deeply-rooted, privately-owned American manufacturing company whose products play a pivotal role in production and transportation of ingredients used to build the world’s infrastructure. Specialties include crushing, screening, washing, and conveying systems, alongside comprehensive parts and services that support robust construction aggregates production from Rock Face to Load Out. Equipped with one million square feet of manufacturing space and more than 100 engineers, Superior is headquartered in Morris, Minnesota, with four additional production facilities in the United States, plus international manufacturing locations in Canada, Brazil, and Asia.
