Pacific Basin Shipping Limited, one of the world’s leading dry bulk shipping companies, has announced a strategic initiative to transform its bunker team into a new Sustainable Energy Solutions team in a significant step to enhance the Company’s resilience and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving maritime and energy landscape.
This evolution aligns with Pacific Basin’s decarbonisation and optimisation initiatives and is designed to position the Company at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation compliance and related monetisation opportunities, while enabling the Company to deliver a broader suite of value-added services as customers’ needs change. This transition coincides with Rakesh Sharma’s retirement in the summer of 2026 after 15 years of successful leadership of Pacific Basin’s bunker team.
The Company extends its heartfelt gratitude to Rakesh for his outstanding service which has been instrumental to the Pacific Basin bunker team’s success. To lead this transformation, Pacific Basin has appointed Henrik Røjel as Head Sustainable Energy Solutions, effective from February 2026. Previously serving with DS Norden, Henrik brings with him deep expertise in future fuels and decarbonisation services and will help Pacific Basin to fast-track its capabilities such as monetising alternative fuels through Book & Claim and carbon credit trading while optimising its approach to compliance with national, regional and global maritime GHG reduction regulations. In addition to his operational experience, Henrik has held board-level positions and serves on the Advisory Board of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
These are all credentials that will be invaluable in Pacific Basin’s drive to expand its innovative energy-related offerings, future-proof its business and enhance its position at the forefront of sustainable shipping. James Chesman, Director of Operations, commented: “The formation of our Sustainable Energy Solutions team marks a significant milestone in our wider journey to deliver sustainable shipping solutions for our customers. Henrik’s experience in future fuels and monetising decarbonisation initiatives, combined with the talent and experience of our existing bunker team, will enable us to unlock new opportunities and enhance Pacific Basin’s position as a leader in the maritime energy transition.”
