New SIP+ valve from HJ Lubricators dramatically cuts retrofit time

New SIP+ valve from HJ Lubricators dramatically cuts retrofit time

(Posted on 07/10/25)

Hadsund, Denmark: Cylinder lubrication systems specialist HJ Lubricators has launched SIP+, a next-generation upgrade of its patented Swirl Injection Principle (SIP) valve for two-stroke marine engines – providing a big benefit for shipowners seeking to cut fuel-oil consumption and minimise retrofit downtime.

Shipowners seeking to reduce fuel-oil consumption and minimise retrofit downtime have a new solution in SIP+, the latest evolution of HJ Lubricators’ patented Swirl Injection Principle (SIP) valve for two-stroke marine engines.

The redesigned, dual-fuel-ready SIP+ valve eliminates the need for internal liner machining and top-cover removal – a breakthrough that reduces installation time by more than one-third. This enables retrofits to be completed during normal port stays, cutting downtime and associated costs.

“SIP+ takes a proven technology and makes it easier and faster to install, while achieving the same optimal lubrication at low feed rates,” said the company's Head of Sales, Mark Kristensen. “Downtime is one of the biggest hidden costs in fleet operations, and SIP+ makes upgrades both more practical and cost-effective.”

SIP+ retains all the advantages of the original SIP design: uniform oil-film distribution, reduced liner wear and lower lube-oil consumption. It is fully compatible with existing lubrication systems and optimised for modern operating conditions, including thin-oil and dual-fuel engines.

Lower lube-oil consumption translates directly into reduced OPEX, while less oil burned means lower CO? and particle emissions – helping owners meet increasingly strict emission standards. HJ Lubricators estimates a typical payback period of around three years and offers an online calculator for precise savings estimates.

“With more than 3,500 HJ Lubricators systems already in service, SIP+ is a small design change with a big impact,” Kristensen added. “It gives shipowners a flexible, innovative way to future-proof their engines at a time when energy efficiency is paramount."

Part of G&O Maritime Group, HJ Lubricators is the world’s leading specialist in cylinder lubrication for two-stroke marine engines. With more than a century of experience and over 3,500 vessel retrofits worldwide, the company delivers advanced lubrication technology for both newbuilds and retrofits – regardless of engine type or brand. Its patented systems inject fresh oil during each piston stroke and atomize it inside the combustion chamber, ensuring optimal lubrication, lower oil consumption and reduced emissions. Supported by global service teams available 24/7, we provide shipowners and technical managers with complete lifecycle support, including optimisation, reconditioning and training.
