In the first quarter of 2018, Konecranes won an order from the Netherlands for a Konecranes Gottwald Model 6 Mobile Harbor Crane, scheduled to be commissioned in the summer.
European Bulk Services B.V. (EBS) purchased the four-rope grab crane to support its steadily growing bulk handling business in the long term. In Rotterdam, the diesel-electric crane will handle a range of dry bulk materials. It will be prepared to use power from the port’s grid in the future, for even more eco-efficient operation. This will reduce the crane’s energy consumption and eliminate exhaust emissions locally.
Jan de Wit, Managing Director, EBS, explains: “We have significantly expanded and modernized our storage infrastructure to strengthen our position as a leading provider of covered storage for dry bulk products in the Port of Rotterdam. To benefit in the most flexible way from our new sheds with their removable sliding roofs, we have now opted for a Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Crane. This versatile crane will directly load products from the different compartments of our sheds onto sea-going vessels and vice versa.”
Alexandros Stogianidis, Regional Sales Manager, Konecranes Port Solutions, says: “We are pleased that, with EBS, we have convinced a new customer to opt for mobile harbor crane technology from Konecranes. To offer increased bulk handling performance and improved safety, the new crane will be equipped with a number of smart crane features for assisted crane motions and working range limitation. These include a semi-automated point-to-point handling mode and an anti-sway system, in addition to lifting height, slewing angle and radius limitation. The crane will also take advantage of a hold totalizing feature for monitoring the loading and unloading processes. Finally, it will feature a verifiable weighing system that will allow EBS to quickly and accurately determine the weight of bulk materials for commercial and billing purposes during crane operation.”
The Model 6 four-rope grab crane provides a maximum lifting capacity of 100 t, an outreach of up to 51 m and a high-performance 50-t grab curve.
