Julia Ju appointed The Swedish Club’s new Chief Executive in Hong Kong

(Posted on 08/07/25)

The Swedish Club has announced the appointment of Julia Ju as the new Chief Executive and Area Manager of the Hong Kong Branch effective 1 October 2025.

It follows the news that Lars A. Malm will be leaving the organisation to take on a new role with Cambiaso Risso. Lars has accepted an offer to establish and lead their new office in Hong Kong.

Julia, currently Head of Claims at The Swedish Club Hong Kong, brings over two decades of experience in P&I claims handling, having served in both The Swedish Club and China P&I Club. She holds LLM degrees from the University of Southampton and Peking University, and an LLB from Dalian Maritime University. Julia's extensive expertise and leadership will ensure a seamless transition and continued excellence in service to The Swedish Club members.

Lars has been a cornerstone of The Swedish Club for more than 25 years, beginning his journey as a Hull Claims Adjuster. From there, he quickly rose through the ranks, holding a number of senior management roles at the Club's head office in Gothenburg including Departmental Area Manager, Director of Team Management, Director of Risk & Operations, and later, Director of Strategic Business Development and Client Relations.

In May 2023, Lars moved to Hong Kong to assume the position of Managing Director of The Swedish Club Hong Kong Ltd. and later became Chief Executive of The Swedish Club Hong Kong Branch. His leadership in this role, along with his global network and in-depth industry insight, significantly contributed to strengthening the Club’s presence and partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition, Jason Wu has been appointed as Regional Director, Underwriting (Greater China). In this expanded role, Jason will report directly to the Director of Underwriting at Head Office.

Commenting on these appointments, The Swedish Club’s Managing Director Thomas Nordberg said:

"Lars has been an integral part of the Club’s evolution. His professionalism, dedication and vision have helped shape the Club into what it is today. While we are sorry to see him go, we are proud to see one of our own take on such an exciting opportunity. We extend our deepest gratitude to Lars for his tremendous service and wish him every success in his new role with Cambiaso Risso.

“We are also delighted to appoint Julia as the new Chief Executive of our Hong Kong Branch. Julia is an exceptional leader with deep expertise in marine insurance and a proven track record of service excellence. Her international background, legal acumen, and decades of experience in P&I claims handling uniquely position her for this role. Julia combines strategic vision with an unwavering commitment to our members, and we have full confidence in her ability to take the Hong Kong office into the future.

“Jason has played a pivotal role in underwriting for The Swedish Club in Hong Kong, contributing strong analytical insight and deep regional expertise. His appointment as Regional Director, Underwriting (Greater China) reflects his proven capabilities and further reinforces the Club’s leadership and commitment in the region,” he added.
