On 27 June, World Coal Association CEO Benjamin Sporton will be joining a group of experts to discuss the importance of responsible supply chains in the coal industry.
The World Coal Association is the global network for the coal industry. Formed of major international coal producers, it works to demonstrate and gain acceptance for the fundamental role coal plays in achieving a sustainable, lower carbon energy future.
Coal will remain an important fuel source for decades to come; it’s therefore important to ensure that the way coal is produced and used is responsible and sustainable.
The event, organised by Bettercoal, will bring together stakeholders from the coal supply chain, including the energy industry, standards initiatives, and civil society organisations to discuss the role of coal in traditional and renewable sources of energy.
Topics to be discussed include: the use of coal in the renewable energy sector, due diligence in mining and in other energy supply chains, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WCA signed a MOU with Bettercoal at the end of last year. The agreement clearly defines our partnership and also gives scope to the exchange of expertise and knowledge on sustainable development practices in the coal industry.
