Dualog has introduced a major upgrade to its Dualog Mail platform with the launch of Identity Provider (IdP) and Single Sign-On (SSO) functionality for seafarers. The new feature allows crew to log in once with their Dualog Account and securely access all authorised onboard and cloud-based systems, including PMS, crewing systems, training platforms, and cybersecurity tools.
By centralising identity and access management across entire fleets using open standards (SAML, SCIM, OpenID), shipping companies can now strengthen cybersecurity and streamline digital operations.
“This launch is an important part of our commitment to simplify and secure digital life at sea”, said Silje Moan, Chief Commercial Officer at Dualog. “Unifying crew access under a single secure identity means faster onboarding, reduced cyber risk, and simpler workflows. This leaves more time for the crew to focus on their core tasks”.
The move comes as the industry faces growing challenges around fragmented identity management. According to the European Maritime Safety Agency, over 60% of shipping companies struggle with abandoned accounts and inconsistent access, leaving fleets vulnerable. Updated IMO guidelines on Maritime Cyber Risk Management (MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3/Rev.3) also highlight the importance of role-based access and credential lifecycle management in reducing cyber risks.
“For maritime cybersecurity to be effective, identity must be the starting point”, explained Geir Inge Jensen, Chief Information Security Officer at Dualog and ISO committee member. “Inactive accounts and shared logins create dangerous blind spots. A unified identity layer allows IT teams to enforce controls, maintain oversight, and respond to threats faster”.
“We built this solution for the real-world complexity of shipping operations. Crew rotate, ships move, systems evolve. The single sign-on functionality of Dualog Mail makes identity management effortless, secure, scalable, and tailored to the shipping environment”, adds Mikael Johannessen, Product Manager at Dualog.
With this release, Dualog strengthens its role as a trusted cybersecurity and IT partner for modern fleets, helping operators improve compliance, enhance efficiency, and protect their digital infrastructure at sea.
