Anemoi Marine Technologies Ltd (Anemoi) has appointed Lloyd’s Register (LR) Technical Director Claudene Sharp-Patel to its Technical Oversight Committee, bringing a vast wealth of maritime operational expertise and regulatory experience to the non-executive body guiding the design and development of Anemoi’s wind-assisted propulsion solutions.
Claudene will continue in the position she has held at LR since 2022, which is the top engineering role with the UK-based classification society. She has also held a chief engineer’s ticket, becoming the first woman in Australia to qualify for the position, and has worked at sea for several years on bulk carriers and tankers for companies including BHP, Shell and BP.
The Technical Oversight Committee is charged with reviewing Anemoi designs as well as scrutinising testing, production and working processes to ensure that Anemoi’s Rotor Sails are not only safe and reliable but the designs optimise performance of the vessel, are easy to use and remain commercially competitive. The group comprises Anemoi senior executives, with external experts brought in to provide industry insight and qualified advice.
LR has been a valued independent voice throughout Anemoi’s evolution. It recently verified Anemoi’s new performance prediction methodology designed specifically for wind assisted propulsion systems, and has assured the integration of Anemoi solutions on a wide range of vessels. Claudene therefore joins the committee with a thorough understanding of Anemoi’s solutions, as well as the wider market and regulatory context influencing the rapidly growing demand for WAPS.
“This is a fascinating time to be involved in wind-assisted propulsion, as focus across the market shifts from proving feasibility to scaling up production and accelerating deployment. I look forward to supporting the development of Anemoi’s solutions and its installed base in this new advisory role,” saidClaudene Sharp-Patel LR Technical Director and member of Anemoi Technical Oversight Committee
“We are really excited to welcome Claudene to our Technical Oversight Committee. She brings a truly unique perspective that combines significant operational experience with a deep understanding of the rules, regulations and market drivers that Anemoi must factor into its next-generation Rotor Sail designs. With her insight, we can be confident of advancing our market-leading solutions even further,” said Clare Urmston CEO of Anemoi.
