Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM)’s team of Volker and Kerstin Hahn in Dortmund is being reinforced by Markus Heinen. With this experienced marketing and network specialist, most recently fulfilling multiple functions as Regional Manager North/East for SPC Multimodal Transport Solutions in Bonn, HHM has already found a successor for Volker Hahn, who will be retiring in the second half of the year.
Dortmund is a fine choice as a location for an HHM Representative Office.. Shippers and forwarders from North Rhine-Westphalia use the dense network of worldwide liner services via Hamburg for the global distribution of import and export goods, consisting mainly of traded and retail store goods, metals and metal products, machinery and equipment, vehicles, and food & beverages. The representative office also covers the Lower Saxony, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland market areas from Dortmund. The challenges in seaport-hinterland transport, plus stiff competition between North Range ports, make its work extremely varied and demanding. At numerous briefings, networking events such as Port Evenings, and in the framework of transport projects, the Representative Office does valuable spadework, also acting as a bridge between HHM member companies in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and those companies and organizations inland concerned with seaborne foreign trade, transport and logistics.
“In view of the forecast growth in the volume of goods handled via Northern European seaports, along with Markus Heinen we want to further intensify our market coverage in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Moselle region and Lower Saxony. The aim is to commit ourselves to meeting the requirements of shippers even better in these significant market regions for the Port of Hamburg. The port is an important element of the German foreign trading system. As a universal port, it offers practically all conceivable facilities in the transport and logistics sector. It will be one of Markus Heinen’s tasks to push these advantages on the market,” says Axel Mattern, CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing.
As a transport logistics expert, Markus Heinen brings immense specialist knowhow plus excellent contacts to his new function with Port of Hamburg Marketing. This extensively networked business graduate is as well-versed in rail freight transport, inland waterway and ocean-going shipping as in cooperation with official bodies, chambers of commerce and trade associations at national and European levels. “I look forward to my new duties with Port of Hamburg Marketing. In particular, I shall be championing a shift of freight transport from the roads to rail plus inland waterway shipping,” says Heinen. He sees good chances of activating rail and inland shipping’s potential as environment-friendly carriers for the Port of Hamburg’s inland traffic for shipments from the Moselle region via Cologne and from Siegerland, i.e. Siegen and the surrounding area.
